The Roots are one of the most consistent hip-hop groups still in existence. Most people know them for the song, The Seed 2.0 with Cody ChesnuTT or them as the band on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. I will occasionally post music on here and it only seems right to start off Songs with Philosophical Swag with a jam from the Roots. Their two most recent albums have made some serious comments on society and what it means to be a part of the 21st century. This means a lot in a day and age where most chart toppers are more about panty droppers or materialism other things..
Check the lyrics…
If everything is made in China, are we Chinese?
And why do haters separate us like we Siamese?
Technology turning the planet into zombies
Everybody all in everybody’s dirty laundry
Acid rain, earthquakes, hurricane, tsunamis
Terrorist, crime sprees, assaults, and robberies
Cops yellin’ stop, freeze
Shoot him before he try to leave
Air quality so foul, I gotta try to breathe
Endangered species
And we runnin’ out of trees
Some potent stuff right?
How I Got Over was my favorite album of 2010. Seriously, can’t send enough praise their way.
So there you have it, The Roots’ Dear GOD 2.0 is the first of many posts in my new piece, Songs with Philosophical Swag.
